Coccidioides and Valley fever
We detected Coccidioides in mammal lungs across the endemic Valley fever region of the southwestern U.S. (Salazar-Hamm et al. 2022).

We found C. posadasii grows significantly faster than C. immitis at 37C but at the same rate at 28C (Mead et al. 2020).
When accounting for population, there is a higher incidence of human coccidiodomycosis cases in the south and western portions of New Mexico (Salazar-Hamm et al. 2025).
